It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Aja Lynn Tainpeah, 37, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Aja was born on December 23, 1988, in Claremore, Oklahoma, to Ray and Ramona Tainpeah. She attended Pleasant Grove for her elementary and middle school education and graduated from Shawnee High School in 2008.
Aja’s life was marked by many accomplishments and honors. She proudly served as a member of SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco), where she was a team leader, and she was the captain of the Challenge Bowl team. She held the title of Reigning Pleasant Grove Princess and was a talented Southern Cloth Dancer. Aja also served as a Shell Shaker at the Muscogee Creek/Seminole ceremonial grounds, reflecting her deep cultural roots and spiritual connection.
Aja was truly one of a kind—a genuine people person whose presence left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She had a rare gift for connecting with others, touching countless lives with her kindness, warmth, and compassion. She was an extraordinary human being whose impact will not be forgotten.
Known as the ultimate social butterfly, Aja was adventurous, free-spirited, and full of life. Even as a child, she carried an old soul, strong medicine and a strong sense of purpose. Her journey through life led her down many paths—the narrow road, the wide road, the road to recovery, the Red Road, and the Road to Emmaus—each shaping her spiritual depth and understanding. Her faith and insight allowed her to be a source of comfort and strength to those around her. She was a compassionate listener who could relate to others in their time of need.
Aja had a vibrant sense of humor and a gift for telling tall tales. She loved to make people laugh and lighten any situation. In moments of stress or challenge, you could often hear her say, “Comin’ in hot!” or “I got this!”—phrases that perfectly captured her fearless and determined spirit.
She loved God, her family, and life itself. She had a passion for music, food, and spending time with good people. A devoted sports fan, Aja cheered faithfully for the Dallas Cowboys, New York Mets, Oklahoma Sooners, and Oklahoma City Thunder. Win or lose, her loyalty never wavered. Cowboy haters beware, she may come to you in the middle of the night and pull the covers off your feet! AYE, just joking! But it would be so like her!
Above all, Aja was a loving daughter, mother, sister, cousin, granddaughter, church member, teammate, coworker, and friend. Her beautiful smile, infectious laughter, and genuine kindness will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
We will never ever, ever, ever, forget your smile, your laughter, your sense of humor and the tender loving kindness that you showed to all the people you touched while here with us.
For all those that knew her, there’s no other name like “Aja!”
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dorothy Tainpeah, Edna Belcher, John Tainpeah, Chester Fields, and Jack Belcher; her aunts, Virginia Fields, Judy Holt, Evelyn Duttry, and Jacqueline Brinkley; her uncles, Jackie Belcher, Taylor Fields, Eugene Fields, and Johnny Belcher; and her cousins, Robert Holt, Kimberly Coachman, Meske Wind, Myka Harjo and Remington Stephens.
