Richard Rider Obituary

Richard Lonnie Rider, 87, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at his home.

Richard was born January 6, 1932 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Marion and Bessie (Oliver) Rider.

He grew up at Brendle Corner in a log cabin as a resident of Little Axe community and attended school there at Brendle Corner.

Richard married his 2nd wife, Laurie Garrett on April 9, 2016 at 12 corners Baptist Church in Noble, Oklahoma.

Richard served 2 years in the Army and 18 years in the Air Force.  He was stationed in France, Okinawa, Japan, Vietnam and many places within the US.

He retired from the Air Force after a career in the military and worked 5 years for the VA Hospital and then worked 15 years as a volunteer at the VA Hospital. Richard was a hard worker all of his life.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycles.  He took care of his 5 acres and loved to fish with his grandkids. He liked to feed birds and was entertained by watching them, too.  He kept up with the weather and was a very active member of 12 Corners Baptist Church.  He supported his Church family in youth, mission projects and musical instruments. He was very generous in ministry work in many different Churches over the years.  He also enjoyed a big garden and sharing his produce with his Church family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Anna M. Rider after 57 years of marriage, 2 sons, Bruce Rider and Albert Rider; 3 brothers, Robert, Raymond, and Ray Rider.             

He is survived by wife, Laurie Rider of the home; 2 sons, Norman & Trudie Rider of Noble; and Clifford & Catherine Rider of Norman; 6 grandchildren, Richard, Misty, Shawna, Sheila, Shawna, Randall; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Roy Rider of Tecumseh, and Ralph Rider of Little Axe; and 3 dogs that he loved dearly.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 28, 2019 and continue through service time.  Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 29, 2019 at 12 Corners Baptist Church 15601 E. Etowah Road, Noble, OK with Pastor Troy Wright and Pastor Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
