Opal Miner Obituary

Opal Joyce Miner, 86, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at her home after an extended illness.

She was born August 29, 1932 in Indianola, Oklahoma to Arthur and Zadie (Green) Bourland. She grew up in Savannah, Oklahoma where she attended school.

She met her future husband when her brother, A.D. brought his good friend John Miner home and the rest was history.  John and Opal were married on December 16, 1950 in Van Buren, Arkansas.  They moved to Tecumseh in 1960 where they have lived since and raised their family. Opal never worked outside of the home and focused all her love and energy on caring for her husband and family.  Her family was the focal and passion of her life and she doted on each and every one of them.   Each one had a special place in her heart and she cherished when she was able to spend time with them.  She was also a devote Christian and cherished her relationship with God. She believed that with God things are possible and she lived her life in that manner.

She and John built and remodeled many homes throughout their marriage.  You would find her right beside him, whether it be on the rooftops laying shingles, hanging sheetrock or putting up siding. She was a go-getter and had a zest for life.  She loved traveling; she and John were considered Snowbirds and wintered in McAllen, Texas for many years. After her illness and they couldn’t make that trip each year, she enjoyed sitting on the porch and walking around the backyard when she could picking up pecans.  She also loved seeing her flowers and watching, Ornery, the grand-dog run and chase the squirrels and birds.

The staff from Heartland Hospice also became very important to her.  The caring and compassionate care they provided made a lasting impact.  They went above and beyond any expectation the family had when they began the journey together and the Miner family would like to extend their deepest and most sincere appreciation to all the staff that provided such great care to Opal during her illness.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Miner; granddaughter, Chloe Carter; parents Arthur and Zadie Bourland; 5 brothers; and 5 sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 69½ years, John Miner of the home; daughter, Brenda Carter and Roy Gribble of Tecumseh; 2 sons 1 daughter-in-law, Larry Miner of Tecumseh and Dub and Beverly Miner of Tecumseh; 8 grandchildren, Gary and Marissa Miner, Sammi and Jason McQuay, Brent Miner, Tina and Rick Sturm, Evie and Troy Reed, Jim and Natahlie Miner, Krystal & Tim LaValley and Jeremy and Hollie Carter; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2019 and from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 2019 with family gathering to greet friends and family from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Cooper Funeral Home.  Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2019 at Tecumseh Cemetery with Chaplain Robert Foos, Heartland Hospice officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
