James Anderson Obituary

James Ervin “Andy” Anderson, 75, Tecumseh resident passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family. 

He was born on August 19, 1943 to James Heber and Lila (Smith) Anderson in Quinton, Oklahoma.  

He attended schools at Quinton and Graduated in 1961. 

He served in the Army from March 1964 to march 1967 serving in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam.  He was stationed at White Sands Missile Base in White Sands, New Mexico for his last 8 months being honorably discharged March 10, 1967. 

In April 1967 he married Geraldine Looper of Shawnee.  They were told about each other and started writing to each other while he was still in Vietnam.  They first met in August 1966 and were married on Aril 15, 1967 and celebrated their 52nd anniversary in 2019. 

He was employed at Tinker AFB for 29 years before retiring.  He worked for the Senior Citizen Center in McLoud as a bus driver.  For the next 18 years he was a bus driver for the Tecumseh Public Schools.  His job that gave him the most enjoyment was the years he drove the Special Needs bus.  Everyone knew him wearing his black Savage jacket with a school bus on the back.   Since retiring in 2011, he has kept the Donut Shop and Boom-a-Rang in business. 

He was a member of the First Church of God, Hwy #9, in Tecumseh.  He was ordained as a Minister in 1981 and has pastored Churches of God in Shawnee, Tecumseh, Fairview Rock Church, Tupelo and Quinton, Oklahoma.  He performed his first wedding service in 1982.  From a young age, he enjoyed singing.  He had to retire from both due to bad health. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother-in-law, Homer Looper; mother and father-in-law, Woodrow and Jewel Looper; and step-father-in-law, Henry Love. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Geraldine (Gerri) Anderson of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, James Wesley and Natosha Lynn “Tosh” Anderson of Shawnee, OK; 4 grandchildren, James Austin  and wife, Libbie Anderson of Pauls Valley, OK, Bailey Anderson, Jacey Anderson and Maranda Anderson, all of Shawnee, OK; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Anita and Harlin Gannaway of Oklahoma City, OK, Peggy and Terrill Quinton of Sapulpa, OK and Deloris Tucker of Stigler, OK; 1 brother, Charles Ken Anderson of Tecumseh, OK; nieces, nephews and many loving friends and extended family. 

The family has designated the American Cancer Society as appropriate for memorials in lieu of flowers. 

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019 and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2019 and continue through service time.  Family gathering to greet friends and family will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Cooper Funeral Home.  Service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2019 at Tecumseh First Church of God with his cousin, Wendell Folsom and Reverend Todd Tiffin, Tecumseh First Church of God officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
