The year 2006 will mark the Centennial
Anniversary of Cooper Funeral Home. Since 1906,
the Tecumseh area has been served by four generations
of the Cooper Family. Cooper Funeral Home is pleased
to announce that in 2006, J. Cooper joins his
father as co-owner of the funeral home.
In 1906, James McDonald “Jim”
Cooper, founder of Cooper Funeral Home, bought
the first of several furniture stocks, one of
which contained a few caskets that indirectly
led him into the funeral business. Following his
retirement in 1946, his sons, Virgil, J. Lynn
and H. J. Cooper continued to operate the family
firm until 1952. In 1957, the decision was made
to move the furniture store away from the undertaking
business. At that time Lynn became sole owner
and operator of Cooper Funeral Home. In 1964,
Lynn’s son, Jim L. Cooper, joined his father
in the family firm. In 1984, following Lynn’s
retirement, Jim became the owner. In 1990, J.
Cooper, the fourth generation of “Coopers,”
joined the family firm.
Throughout the past 100 years, the
family has held on to their tradition of loyal
service to the families they serve. As they look
toward the next 100 years of service, it is their
goal to continue that tradition. |
